WSKG Writer’s Challenge for School-Aged Kids is Back for Its 26th Year

Entries are due May 1st

By Kate Fletcher, Macaroni KID Binghamton Publisher April 15, 2026

Does your child have a story to tell, a poem to share, or a memory they want to capture in words? It’s time to start writing! The WSKG Writer’s Challenge is officially open for 2026, and it’s one of our favorite ways to celebrate the incredible creativity of kids right here in the Greater Binghamton area.

For over a quarter-century, WSKG has been providing a platform for local students to transition from "student" to "published author." Whether they are scribbling their first sentences in kindergarten or polishing a sophisticated narrative in high school, this is their moment to shine.

Why Enter?

Our kids are already writing every day in the classroom. From fiction and poetry to personal essays, their notebooks are full of hidden gems. This challenge gives them a "why" for their work—a chance to publish, submit, and be celebrated by their community.

"This is a joyful, memorable experience that truly honors students as authors."
